Starting a Business After 50? Stop Trying Everything
Oct 18, 2026
The people who make nothing try everything.
I know, because I was one of them.
A course on Monday. A podcast idea on Wednesday. By Friday I was pricing out a candle business. Every week felt busy. Every week ended with nothing to show for it.
Why it feels like progress
Trying new things feels brave. And after 50, brave is the whole point, right?
Here is the problem. Starting is fun. Day three is not. So the second an idea gets boring, a shiny new one shows up and rescues you. You never reach the part where money happens.
Busy is not the same as building.
What actually works
Pick one thing. Just one.
Then give it a real shot before you judge it. Not a weekend. A few weeks of showing up even when it feels dull.
One idea, worked properly, beats ten ideas you flirted with. Every time.
How to pick yours
Ask yourself three questions:
- What do people already ask me for help with?
- What could I start this week with what I already have?
- What would I still do on a boring Tuesday?
The idea that survives all three is the one.
